Day 3 Prelims Recap: TYR Invitational

The Northwestern men and women claimed first in five of the twelve events during the third prelim session of the TYR Invitational, swimming to a few NCAA B cuts in the process.

Women’s 50 Fly

Air Force freshman Maria Schroeder touched first with a 25.06, just three one-hundredths of a second ahead of Northwestern’s Julia Pratt (25.09). Schroeder‘s teammate Elise Hart followed up for third in 25.17.

Men’s 50 Fly

Michigan State’s Jacob Moore claimed first in a commanding 21.96 ahead of the rest of the field. Northwestern’s Almog Olshtein touched second in 22.42, just four one-hundredths of a second ahead of Michigan State’s Kyle Workman (22.46). Three one-hundredths of a second behind Workman was Northwestern’s Mark Ferguson in 22.49.

Women’s 200 Back

Northwestern’s Lacey Locke swam to an NCAA B cut with her winning time of 1:58.68. Michigan State’s Chanel Bonin followed up for second in 2:00.91, while Northwestern’s Melissa Postol was third in 2:02.52.

Men’s 200 Back

Northwestern’s Alex Snarski took the top spot going into finals with a 1:46.93, while Michigan State’s Sam Hiller touched second in 1:48.67. Snarski‘s teammate Andrew Jovanovic touched third in 1:48.95.

Women’s 100 Free

Northwestern gained some serious points in the women’s 100 Free, placing six swimmers in the top eight going into the finals session tonight. Wildcat Annika Winsnes led the field with a 50.08 ahead of four of her Northwestern teammates. Second was Aja Malone in 51.01, just ahead of Northwestern’s Mary Warren (51.23).

Men’s 100 Free

Saint Louis University’s Brend Hulseman took first in the men’s event with a 45.34, just ahead of Michigan State’s Jacob Moore (45.70) and Laclan Mcleish (45.76). Saint Louis University’s Ryan McCoy followed up for fourth (45.80), just four one-hundredths of a second behind Mcleish.

Women’s 200 Breast

Air Force’s Kim Davis claimed an NCAA B cut with her prelim-winning time of 2:15.67 ahead of Northwestern’s Julianne Kurke (2:16.46). Michigan State’s Marina Borri followed up for third in 2:17.66.

Men’s 200 Breast

Michigan State’s Alex Kandt (2:01.21) cleared the field by three seconds for first, ahead of Northwestern’s Van Donkersgoed (2:04.48). University of Illinois – Chicago’s Christian Grobe touched third in 2:04.74.

Women’s 50 Back

Michigan State’s Chanel Bonin took first with a 25.29 ahead of a pair of Northwestern swimmers. Wildcats Lacey Locke (25.79) and Katherine Senseman (26.79) took second and third, respectively.

Men’s 50 Back

Northwestern claimed the top two spots going into finals, with teammates Andrew Jovanovic (22.97) and Mark Ferguson (23.46) taking first and second, respectively. Michigan State’s Alex Trompke followed up for third in 23.55.

Women’s 200 Fly

Wildcat Ellen Stello took home an NCAA B cut along with the first-place prelims time of 1:59.42. Michigan State’s Elizabeth Brown (2:01.66) touched second while Air Force’s Maria Schroeder was third in 2:02.60.

Men’s 200 Fly

Michigan State’s Nathaniel Weeks was first to the wall in 1:50.20, just ahead of University of Illinois – Chicago’s Kei Ishimaru (1:50.74). Third was Truman’s Will Shanel in 1:52.12.
