Claire Gilmore to Become Next Piece of Ohio State 200 Freestyle Tradition

Ohio State’s best relay last season was their 800 free relay, which placed 3rd at Big Tens and 12th at NCAA’s.

After graduating half of that relay, it was time for some reinforcements, and Ohio State got just that with a verbal commitment from Claire Gimore out of the Cincinnati Aquatic Club.

Gilmore’s best events in yards are the 50/100/200/500 freestyles, where she has bests of 24.1/51.0/1:48.3. She also has solid times in long course, having been 58.3 and 2:05.1 in the summer of 2013.

While she didn’t have her best long course season in 2014, she did make improvements in her three best events (the 100, 200, and 500 freestyles) in yards. That includes a second-and-a-half drop in the 200.

Gilmore was the Ohio State Champion in the 200 free for Mariemont High School as a junior, swimming in Division 2.

With a little bit of improvement, she should make a contribution to Ohio State’s 800 free relay as a freshman, with a chance to move onto the 400 and score individually at Big Tens as well.
