Check out Kyle Darmody’s Superman handshake with a kid at the SEC Championships

Some lighter news today: a .gif has surfaced of a super-secret handshake exchanged last weekend between Auburn’s sprinting star Kyle Darmody and one of the young swimming fans working at the Auburn-hosted event.

No, this isn’t quite a Buzzfeed post. At least not until we get 22 more Kyle Darmody gifs to stick together in one post. But it is a cool look at one of the nation’s best swimmers taking time to engage with a young fan just moments before one of the bigger races of his career.

The handshake happened as the championship finalists walked out before the 100 freestyle at last week’s SEC Championships. In the gif below, Darmody shares the handshake with one of the kids carrying out the A final warm-up baskets for each lane. The gif showed up on Reddit shortly after the SEC meet.

The handshake looks to be inspired by current Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who played his college ball at Auburn – the handshake features Newton’s trademark “Superman” celebration.
