Naperville, Illinois’ Caitlin Guccione has announced her intention to swim for the University of Rhode Island next year. Guccione is a senior at Naperville Central High School, whom she represented in the 100 fly at the 2014 IHSA Girls State Championships last November.

Guccione swims for Academy Bullets Swim Club in Aurora, Illinois. She achieved nearly all her best times at the NCSA Spring and Summer Championships during this past season. Her top short-course times include:

  • 50 fly – 26.27
  • 100 fly – 57.13
  • 200 fly – 2:05.95
  • 100 breast – 1:08.47
  • 200 IM – 2:12.42
  • 50 free – 25.19
  • 200 free – 1:55.76
  • 500 free – 5:09.56

The Atlantic-10 championship meet has a difficult format, with only two finals scoring. Nevertheless, Guccione would have been right there in both the 200 fly and 100 fly as last year’s conference meet; her 200 time would have made the “B” final but her 100 would have been 17th by 1/100. The Rams didn’t score in either of those events so having Guccione on board will have a big impact on results.

Rhode Island finished ninth at the 2015 Atlantic-10 Conference Championships, 37 points away from eighth-place Saint Louis but comfortably ahead of St. Bonaventure and George Washington. Guccione looks like she could be a cornerstone in a class that could help move the Rams to the next level in the Atlantic-10.
