Brown University adds 10 men, 9 women for 2014-2015

The Ivy League’s Brown University Bears have announced 19 incoming freshmen for the coming season, 10 on the men’s side and 9 on the women’s. The 2014-2015 season will be the first season with the two genders in separate programs under separate head coaches, as the team plans to hire two new head coaches after Peter Brown‘s retirement.

The men’s class is headed by Florida’s Riley Springman, an IMer and butterflyer. Springman comes in with a 200 fly time that would have place in the Ivy League championship final a year ago, and also has scoring potential in both IMs. Springman should be a good pickup to fill in for graduated star Tommy Glenn, who won multiple Ivy League titles in the 200 fly over his career.

A pair of California pickups (Willy Lee and Talbot Jacobs) also come in with Ivy League scoring times, Lee in both backstrokes and Jacobs in the 500 free.

For the women, New Jersey product Sarah Cronin comes in with a 200 free time that would have A-finaled last year. She’s also a potential point-scorer in the 100 free, and should be a big relay factor for Brown as well. Aja Grande is a sprinter from Hawaii with B final times in the 50 and 100 free, plus 100 breast, and another New Jersey swimmer, backstroker Jenna Zagoren, would have scored last year with her lifetime-bests as well.
