Both Utah Men and Women Take Wins Over UNLV For Third-Straight Year

The Utah Utes came out victorious over the UNLV Rebels this past Saturday on both the men’s and women’s sides; the women won 179-120 and the men won 189.5-104.5.

Women’s Meet

The Utes A-team of Megan KawaguchiGenevieve RobertsonJenna Marsh and Gillian St. John started the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, touching in 3:49.47, 2 seconds ahead of the Rebels A-team (3:51.89).

Marsh went on to win both the 50-yard and 100-yard fly events in times of 25.32 and 56.58 respectively. Teammate Brianna Francis was also a double winner, winning the 100-yard breast (1:04.81) and 200-yard IM (2:06.87).

Other wins for the Utes came from sophomore Kat Wickham, who won the 1000-yard free in 10:48.76 and Jordan Anderson, who won the 500-yard free in 5:07.30. Kawaguchi was also victorious in the 100-yard back (57.87) and second place finisher in the 50-yard back (27.00), finishing behind UNLV’s Lena Gavrilova (26.69).

Senior Michelle Troup took double wins for the Rebels in the 200-yard and 100-yard free, winning in 1:54.29 and 52.29 respectively. Teammate Lina Rathsack took the victory in the 50-yard breast (29.93) and second behind Francis in the 100-yard breast (1:05.14).

Men’s Meet

The Utes started the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 400-yard medley relay, the A-team of Paul UngurJack BurtonBence Kiraly and Kristian Almberg finished in 3:21.61, ahead of the B-team (3:25.00) and UNLV A-team (3:27.16).

Sophomore Peter Kotson finished nine seconds ahead of the field and winning the 1000-yard free in 9:30.84, he also won the 500-yard free in 4:36.93. Teammate Daniel McArthur and Burton were also double winners, McArthur winning the 200-yard IM (1:53.77) and 100-yard back (50.14) and Burton winning the 50-yard breast (25.84) and 100-yard breast (57.17). Kiraly also claimed two victories, winning the 100-yard free in 46.54 and 200-yard free three seconds ahead of the field in 1:40.15.

Dillion Virva was the sole double winner for the Rebels, winning the 50-yard fly (22.64) and 50-yard free (20.91) and his teammate Dylan Tarazona claimed the win in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.76. The Rebels claimed their 4th and final victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the team of Virva, Forrest BeesleyJoseph Starkweather and Kasey Foley touched in a time of 1:23.07.
