Behind The Scenes: Check out the Volunteers that Make a Swim Meet Run

Athletes are often times oblivious to the dozens, if not hundreds, of volunteers that it takes to pull off a successful swim meet. In an ideal world, that’s exactly how it should be – if everyone’s doing their jobs well, then swimmers should be able to compete without a thought given to who is running the meet, in the sense that everyone has their job – and the athletes’ is to focus on competition and sportsmanship.

But when the racing is done, when the dust has settled, the ribbons have been awarded, we can all (coaches, parents, athletes) then take a step back and really appreciate those behind-the-scenes folks who make youth sports run, and who do so for little more than a fruit tray and some chicken sandwiches.

Above, the Dynamo Swim Club recognizes the behind-the-scenes volunteers who helped run the Georgia Age Group State Championship meet, and showed that timing can be fun, when done with the proper attitude and vigor. In this specific instance, the Dynamo senior swimmers played a huge hand in helping their younger teammates have a fun and successful meet, so special kudos to them for being positive teammates.

This was GENIUS! The kid volunteers all had a great time and really gained an appreciation for what the adult volunteers do. The younger kids competing loved having their older role models there. Win-win for all!

Thanks for making volunteering look like fun. Team commitment shows team pride. Hard to find this kind of commitment anywhere now a days. You have shown excellent team sportsmanship. Way to go.

We just finished our SPC (Southwest Preparatory Conference) Swimming Championships at the Conroe ISM Natatorium near Houston — and the officiating was superb!!! A Great group of staff and support made it a great time for our swimmers & coaches — and ME!
