Australian Cate Campbell Breaks Aussie All-Comers Record in 100 Free

Australia’s Cate Campbell broke the Australian All-Comers Record and the Pan Pac Championship Records on Friday at the 2014 Pan Pac Championships at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

She swam a 52.62 in the women’s 100 free to take the top seed and break her own All-Comers Record of 52.68 set earlier this year at Australia’s National Championships.

It also broke the Pan Pacs Record that belonged to her younger sister Bronte Campbell in 53.50. The thing about that record is that Bronte only held it for a single heat – she herself broke the prior record of 53.67 done by American Natalie Coughlin in 2010.

Those two will be the two Australian representatives in the A-Final, but also going under the old Meet Record was Mel Schlanger, who was a 53.65. For Schlanger, as the third Australian, that puts her into the B-Final. Based on the results thus far, the Australian women look like they might run away with the 400 free relay – not a surprise given that they broke the World Record in that event at the Commonwealth Games a few weeks ago.
