Allison Schmitt Out of Minneapolis Grand Prix

2012 Olympic gold medalist Allison Schmitt will not race at the 2013 Minneapolis Grand Prix this coming weekend, as she is focused on finishing up school. Schmitt is completing her degree at the University of Georgia.

The news was shared with us by her club coach at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club Bob Bowman via Twitter today.

On the first release of psych sheets late last week, Schmitt was entered in the 100, 200, and 500 yard freestyles. She was due to be the top seed in the 500 free, and the 2nd seed behind fellow Georgia Bulldog, and current Athens-based teammate, Megan Romano in the 100 and 200 freestyles.

Bowman says that she entered the meet early, and didn’t scratch before the psych sheets came up, but that her plan is to return for the Austin Grand Prix in January.
