Albright College hires Carthage assistant Michael Hay to lead program

The Albright College Lions, four-time defending MAC champs on the men’s side, have signed on Michael Hay as their new head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs, the school announced yesterday.

Hay comes from Carthage College in Wisconsin, where he served as an assistant under the now-departed Greg Earhart. Hay was with Carthage in Division III for two seasons, and prior to that coached with Pennsylvania’s Villa Maria Academy and the Upper MainLine YMCA. He now returns to Pennsylvania, where he was a standout swimmer for Lehigh from 2004 to 2008.

Hay replaces longtime head coach John Stuhltrager, who left Albright for MAC rivals Stevenson just a month ago.

Hay gave a glimpse into his recruiting philosophy in Albright’s press release, saying “I want to recruit quality kids first and foremost, but I want blue collar kids.”

“I want kids who bring their lunch pail to work every day and are ready to work hard and put team success ahead of their own.”
