Weekly Wonders for the weekend of October 10-12, 2015.

Jade Knueppel, 15, Schroeder YMCA Swim Team: 50y free (23.50) – Knueppel won the girls 50 free at the Greater Milwaukee Open hosted by Schroeder YMCA with her second-fastest time ever; she was only .02 off her personal best, and .75 faster than last year at the same meet. Knueppel also won the 100 free and placed third in the 200.

Sean Santos, 11, Rockville Montgomery Swim Club: 500y free (5:15.12) – Santos dropped 7.4 seconds and came in second in the boys 12-and-under 500 free at the RMSC October Kick-Off Classic at Germantown Indoor Swim Center. Santos won the 200 breast, 200 fly, and 100 IM, and finished the weekend with new PBs in the 500, 100/200 breast, 200 fly, and 100 IM.

Brennan Doss, 15, Quest Swimming: 1000y free (9:38.04) – At the Virginia Statewide A/BB/B/C Meet for 13 and Older hosted by SEVA, Doss went his second-best time in the 1000 free. He was only 2.2 seconds off his PB, and 34 seconds ahead of last year’s pace. Doss also crushed his personal best in the 200 IM, dropping 4.2 seconds to clock a 2:04.07.

Marget Shelly, 15, Chambersburg Chargers: 100y back (57.03) – Shelly won the girls senior 100y back at the 6th Annual Bill Schmidt Memorial Invitational hosted by York YMCA. It was her best time by .65 and it broke the previous meet record by .90. Shelly was runner-up in the 200 IM, third in the 200 back, as well.

Caleb Mauldin, 15, Old Dominion Aquatic Club: 200y back (1:55.68) – Mauldin won both backstrokes and was runner-up in both butterfly events at SEVA’s Virginia Statewide Meet for 13 and Older. Mauldin finished the weekend with new times in the 200 fly and 200 IM, as well as his best in-season 200 back by more than 10 seconds.

Alexis Schrecongost, 11, Sampson of Pittsburgh YMCA: 100y breast (1:11.74) – Schrecongost went 6-for-8 best times at the FAST First Splash short course meet. She dropped nearly 4 seconds in her 100 breast and 200 free, 3.5 in the 200 IM, 3 in the 100 free, 1.6 in the 50 fly, and .6 in the 50 free.

Elysse Pardus, 14, Unattached (Mount Pleasant Swim Club): 100y fly (57.03) – Swimming for Porter-Gaud at the 2015 South Carolina Independent Schools Association AAA state meet, Pardus set new state meet records winning the 100 fly and 200 free (1:53.61). Her butterfly was a best time by over half a second, and was 1.8 seconds faster than a year ago.

Wen Zhang, 14, Dothan Dolphins Swim Team: 200y IM (1:57.87) – At the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University, Zhang won the boys 13-14 50/100/200/500 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM. He was runner-up in the 100 breast. Zhang earned new PBs in every event but the 400 IM.
