Tara Halsted
Tara Halsted is a versatile swimmer originally from Davis in northern California. After graduating from Davis High School and competing for the Davis Arden Racing Team, Halsted chose to attend Stanford University, which is not far down the road from her hometown. She’s currently in her sophomore year, and is undeclared on her major. Although the 200 backstroke is probably Halsted’s best event, she’s talented in many others including the 400 IM, 200 IM, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and distance freestyle events. She’s a great asset to any collegiate team – she can compete in nearly any event that needs the points. Halsted recently qualified for her first NCAA Championships as a sophomore, competing in the 400 IM, 200 IM and the 200 butterfly. Halsted committed to Stanford after taking recruiting trips to San Diego State and UCLA.
Stanford University
2013-2014
As a freshman Halsted competed at the Pac-12 Championships. She swam exhibition in the 400 IM, an event that she would’ve made the ‘B’ final in, and finished 13th in the 200 backstroke.
2014-2015
At the 2015 Pac-12 Championships Halsted finished 16th in the 200 backstroke, 15th in the 200 butterfly and finished third in the 400 IM. She qualified for the NCAA Championships for her first time, and she finished 40th in the 400 IM.
National Competition
Halsted was a CIF Sac-Joaquin section champion in events including the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. She helped the Davis High School Blue Devils to CIF section titles, and was named Sierra Nevada Swimming’s Female Swimmer of the Year for the 2012-2013 season.
