2016 Olympic Trials Qualifier Zach Harting Verbally Commits to Louisville Cardinals

The Louisville women have been on a roll this recruiting season, but it took until Wednesday evening for the men to get their first public verbal commitment in over two months when Zach Harting made his pledge known.

Harting has already qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials in the 200 meter fly with a 2:01.12.

In yards, his best events are the 100 and 200 fly, plus the 200 and 400 IM’s. His best times:

  • 100 fly – 48.99
  • 200 fly – 1:46.50
  • 200 IM – 1:51.60
  • 400 IM – 3:58.30

Louisville, largely on the strength of the best freestyler in the country over the last two years Joao de Lucca, had been a freestyle-heavy program.

While still having good balance, they’re shifting back to more of a stroke program that they were when they first rose to prominence on the backs of swimmers like former NCAA 200 breaststroke champ Carlos Almeida.

Harting joins a butterfly group that, when he arrives, will include Josh Quallen (47.12/1:45.10), individual NCAA qualifier Pedro Coutinho (46.58), and Joe Brown (1:47.01).

Harting swims for Bob Jones High School and the Huntsville Swim Association. During his senior season, he will be gunning for Will Glass’ State Record in the 100 fly (48.12). He is the defending Alabama High School State Champion in the 100 fly.

Jake Miller committed to the Cardinals back in July, one of the first in the class to do so.
